A VISION FOR THE CHURCH

There's a door, a rather large door.  Very aged and simple.  It appeared to be walnut.  The building that attached the door seemed weathered and old, but it was made of the finest stones and and had lots of detail.  This building belongs to God and it's His home.  The whole church has been invited;  each of us received  personal invitations.  God has invited us to come to His home for a party in his honor. 

So we stand in front of this door.  We don't seem to be invited in.  There is no one answering the door to greet us to come inside.  We know it's the correct address it said on the invitation.  We know we are all on time. Still no one answers.

I became very puzzled.  Why wouldn't anyone answer the door?  Then the Holy Spirit came to me and said, "observe" and so I observed all the people that were standing at the door.  I saw three kinds of people.

The first group of people I observed were standing right next to the door.  They appeared to be getting very impatient and rude.  They started to get angry because no one was there to greet them.  They seemed to me rather full of themselves.  And as I shared my observation with the Holy Spirit, He told me that group of people was ungrateful.

The second group as I observed seemed to be holding their heads down. They didn't seem like they were very sure of themselves.  They appeared to be a lonely and an unhappy group.  And as I stood watching them, they started to move away from the door as if they weren't sure if the invitation was really for them.  Then the Holy Spirit said this group of people was discouraged.

The third group as I observed seemed to be standing quietly waiting.  They weren't uptight like the ungrateful group.  The weren't moving away from the door like the discouraged group.  They just stood there quietly waiting with wrapped packages in their arms.  The Holy Spirit told me, 'This was the patient group.'

After my observations, I had many questions to ask the Holy Spirit, but the most profound question and most obvious one was, 'Why hasn't anyone come to the door to greet us and invite us to come inside?'

Then the Holy spirit explained, 'I've given each person a very special spiritual gift.  The gifts were given to you even before you were born.' 

I said, 'What gifts?'

The Holy spirit said, 'Some of you received the gift of prophecy, others received gifts of teaching, encouragement, leadership, and mercy.  And on each of your invitations, it clearly stated to bring these gifts with you.  Not all of you heeded this request.  I asked you to bring the gifts I gave you, so long ago, so that each of you could share your gifts with the others which were invited.

'The first group you observed as Ungrateful.  They knew the invitation said to bring your spiritual gifts, but they chose not to.  They don't want to share the gift given to them.  They chose to keep those gifts at home because of greed and selfishness.  And they didn't want to share with the others.

The second group is the Discouraged ones.  They didn't even read the invitation thoroughly.  They aren't even aware of the request to bring their gifts with them.  Some of these discouraged people aren't even aware they have a gift to bring because they never opened the package to see what I gave them so long ago.  The gifts just sat there collecting dust unopened.

The third group is the Patient group.  They did heed my request and they brought their gifts to share with others.'

Then I asked the Holy Spirit, 'Why can't that group come in?  And then the Holy Spirit said, 'If I only invite that group in, the party would not be complete.  I want all of you to come in with your gifts because that will complete the Body of Christ.  Only then will someone greet you at this door to come inside for the party.'

So church, if you're the ungrateful group, please go home and get your gift, soften your hearts to others and use your gifts for the good of others.  You will find yourselves contented and happy.

To the discouraged group, go home, get your gifts out of your closet, dust them off, open them up.  If you're not sure what to do with it or how to use it, ask the Holy Spirit to show you how.  He will!  And I know this because He has been showing me in the last couple of years.  I've had ups and downs, but the more He has me exercise my gift and use my gift the less discourage I become!

And to the third group, keep using and sharing your gift and continue to be patient.  Because when we all come together in this Body and we all become one body, the Body of Christ, the door will open and it will be 'One "Holy" of a party!'
